Ever since I was young, I’ve felt the strong urge to design and create. That is still the case. I prefer to work with different materials.
During my training as a gold- and silversmith & jewellery designer, I created a collection of jewellery and objects made of horsehair in combination with different materials.
Horsehair requires its own approach. It is reasonably strong, yet vulnerable and unruly. It tends to go its own way. Partly because of this, the end result is not determined in advance. During the creative process, I adjust my design when necessary. Regularly, I get new insights.
Sometimes it turns out that I should do something in a different way than I originally had in mind. I find it fascinating to work in this process-based driven way.
I’ve also created a contemporary ‘Zeeuwse’ jewellery collection. Zeeland (the south-west of the Netherlands) is the place I call home. For this ongoing collection I use antique fabrics and other parts of the regional costume in combination with precious metal.
A large part of my jewellery can be worn in multiple ways. By adding or omitting parts, the jewel can be adjusted. A new image is created.
